Born in Taichung in 1968, Fu Sheng Sun graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Tunghai University in 1998. He first came into contact with ceramics through Professor Hsu Chung-Lin’s ceramics course.
In 2003, he graduated from the Ink Painting Division of the Graduate Institute of Fine Arts at Tunghai University. In 2013, he studied wood firing with Teacher Yeh Wen.
His works are mostly teaware and vessels for daily life, as well as corresponding decorative arrangements for tea ceremony spaces. In terms of form, Sun Fu Sheng attempts to combine Japanese Zen style with Chinese literati aesthetics, possessing both the beauty of harmony, tranquility, purity, and stillness, as well as the delight of unrestrained spirit within the heart. In the use of glaze colors, in addition to traditional Chinese glaze colors, he makes use of the lively characteristics of Shino glaze. Through the interaction of splashing, dripping, thick and thin slip-decoration techniques, the characteristics of the clay body, and the falling ash of wood firing, various changes are produced. He hopes thereby to achieve a kind of hazy, ambiguous, casual, and improvisational elegant delight.
